Panda Class Blog - April 23rd

Dear Panda Families,

We hope you had a lovely holiday! The children are happy being back at school and have been telling us all about their adventures over the last couple of weeks! We have been catching up with one another, and it is wonderful to see the AM & PM classes reunite with such a strong sense of community as Pandas, and within Hillside.

As we start Term 3, we can't quite believe how fast time is flying, and we look forward to continuing to support the children with their learning journeys as we start our next Unit of Inquiry, 'How We Express Ourselves.' Our central focus for this Unit will be exploring how people can express and develop feelings and ideas through the arts.

We will be exploring the arts in many ways, such as through music, performing arts, storytelling, sculpture, painting and much more!

You may like to visit a few art galleries with your child over the course of this Term.  M+ often has some interesting exhibitions on and they currently have Picasso-inspired events for children which you may be interested in. Here is the link for more information.

The Hong Kong Museum of Art  and Tai Kwun might also be worth a visit, and Tamar Park sometimes has some interesting installations to view too.

This week at school, we are enjoying talking about the recent holiday, and the children are happy sharing their photos with their friends during Circle Time. We are reading Julia Donaldson books this week: 'The Snail and the Whale' and 'A Squash and a Squeeze'. Whilst reading, we are learning to notice rhyming words and have been making up some of our own!

Our Open Play consists of puzzles and games in the Monkey Class and a performance stage in the Dolphin Class. The children are already showcasing their performing skills and choosing what costumes/outfits to wear and the songs they'd like to sing!

The Frog Class is hosting quiet yoga time after snack, and the Panda Class transforms into a Supermarket with a cafe! Outdoors, we have brand new water toys and trays for the children, which are already extremely popular on day 2! Bikes and scooters, as well as wooden block play, are available, and the climbing frame.

We are very excited to be dressing up as book characters for our Book Inspired Dress Up Day this Friday, 25th April, and look forward to seeing what each child chooses to dress as!

On Monday 28th, we will be having an incursion about Chinese Puppetry which will be really interesting! This will be taking place before Open Play, and we look forward to learning more about this ancient method of storytelling. It's a lovely way to start off our Unit too!
